There’s nothing worse than going to a show only for a baby to start crying, or a toddler to pipe up with ‘Mummy, what’s a crack whore?’ For your enjoyment, we’ve put together a list of 10 of the many events on offer throughout July strictly for adults only.

Heathers the Musical: 26 June – 6 July (15+)
Although many compare it to Mean Girls, this show gets much more sinister. Join Veronica Sawyer on a journey of self-discovery with sex, drugs and a death or two. Opening weekend is almost sold out, so book tickets quickly!

Catch Heathers at the Townsville Choral Society Hall from 26 June – 6 July with tickets here.

Sexual Perversity in Chicago: 4-28 July (18+)
This free performance by the CQUniversity Creative Arts students, based off the award-winning play by David Mamet, deals with issues of gender, relationships, and everything that comes as a result of those two things combining. Be warned: It’s not for the prudish!

Sexual perversity in Chicago will be performed at various locations from 4-28 July, with venue information here.

Bernie Dieter’s Little Death Club: 4-14 July (18+)
This was one of the first shows announced on the Festival lineup, and for good reason – Bernie Dieter has sold out shows from London to Melbourne, with a tantalising mix of performances backed by a smoky jazz soundtrack you would think was plucked out of a Berlin club.

Welcome Bernie Dieter to Townsville in the Wonderland Spiegeltent from 4-14 July, with tickets here.

Pussy Riot – A Punk Prayer: 6 July (18+)
Catch this screening as part of the Diffraction Collective’s Sonic Alliance at the Old Courthouse Theatre, telling the story of three young women that formed part of feminist collective Pussy Riot – and who performed a punk prayer inside Russia’s main cathedral.

Explore feminism in a whole new way with Pussy Riot at the Old Courthouse Theatre on 6 July, with all Sonic Alliance times here.

Debauched Late Night Burlesque: 6-13 July (18+)
When a show doesn’t start until 10:30pm, you know it is going to be one of the most seductive performances of the Festival. Featuring a number of hand-picked national and international burlesque performers, this will be one worth staying up late for.

Experience Debauched in the Wonderland Spiegeltent from 6-13 July with tickets here.

Wasted Paint: 9-11 July
Bring your own booze and get creative with your friends, as Townsville’s pop-up paint and sip nights join the Northern Fringe! You’ll be supplied with the paint, the easel, and be guided through what to do – you just supply the alcohol and the laughs!

Discover your own creative side with Wasted Paint at the Old Courthouse Theatre from 9-11 July, with tickets here.

The Vagina Monologues: 17-21 July (15+)
A reprise of Theatre iNQ’s sell-out final production of 2018, this performance celebrates empowerment and individuality, while encouraging conversation about topics that often are wrongly considered taboo.

Settle in for The Vagina Monologues in the Wonderland Spiegeltent from 17-21 July with tickets here.

Hella Nervous: 19 July (18+)
Presented by a collection of North Queensland’s most experienced circus and burlesque performers, Hella Nervous is a seductive circus like no other. Expect everything from aerial stunts to burlesque and sideshow tricks.

Catch Hella Nervous at the Empire Theatre on 19 July with tickets here.

Cats Cradle: 19-21 July (18+)
Be prepared to be taken to the edge of your comfort zone – and possibly further. This performance, carried out around, under and entangled in 100 ropes suspended from the ceiling, is the ultimate representation of desire and angst.

Be confronted by Cats Cradle at the Empire Theatre from 19-21 July with tickets here.

Rouge the Show: 19-27 July (18+)
Teased as a circus for grownups, Rouge is a circus experience unlike any you’ve had before. Be prepared for non-stop action on stage from cabaret performances to the most daring of circus stunts and sexual of burlesque performances.

You’ll go red in the face with Rouge the Show at Wonderland Spiegeltent from 19-27 July, with tickets here.
